Synthesis didn’t begin as a platform, or some grand idea to change the way we think of online education. It began through friendship rooted in a shared passion for music, community, and the kind of creative environments that bring out the best in artists.
Co-founders Andy “Opulence” and Andy “Pathwey” officially met in 2018 at Audio Alchemy, a production retreat Opulence organized with fellow audiophile Hedflux, who was living in Hawaii at the time. Audio Alchemy brought together a like-minded group of producers in a beautiful tropical environment, where they traded techniques, shared sessions, and created side-by-side in a space designed purely for artistic exploration.
And then nature decided to raise the stakes… Midway through the retreat, a nearby volcano erupted, releasing toxic gases and prompting a military evacuation that forced the entire group to relocate to a new venue. Instead of derailing the event, the chaos amplified it, and created a sense of uncertainty, resilience, and collective focus that no one could have planned. From that week alone, it became clear that something bigger was happening. The energy, the breakthroughs, and the deep connections formed under such extraordinary circumstances pointed to a model worth expanding.
Over the next few years, Opulence and Pathwey collaborated on other events, refining the concept and imagining how this kind of collaborative environment could be scaled. Their conversations eventually culminated in the creation of Synthesis — a fully realized, week-long immersive production retreat featuring 70 students, 24 instructors, communal studio spaces, shared meals, late-night sessions, and cross-genre collaboration that carried on long after everyone went home. It wasn’t just a retreat; it was a catalyst for something bigger… And the goal became clear: find a way to sustain this synergy year round.

Today, that vision has taken shape in the online evolution of Synthesis. The platform now serves as a digital home, a “musical laboratory” as Pathwey puts it, where producers can connect, collaborate, and learn without leaving their studios. What began as an island retreat has expanded into a centralized hub with hundreds of hours of instruction, masterclasses, exclusive sample packs, project breakdowns, and a constantly growing library of creative resources.
WHY IT’S DIFFERENT
What sets Synthesis apart isn’t just its courses, its structure, or even its origin story: it’s the people behind it. The platform is powered by a lineup of underground bass producers who aren’t just instructors, but active artists who have spent years carving out their own sound by pushing boundaries and mastering the subtleties that define modern electronic music. This includes Pathwey, Opulence, Duffrey, Alejo, Cut Rugs, Murkury, 5AM, Hullabalo0, Mystic Grizzly, Entangled Mind, and Matt Davis of Hacienda Mastering, all bringing their unique angle and expertise to the table for exclusive track reviews, feedback, and lessons.
Students can learn how Duffrey uses tension and release to create dynamic tracks, how Alejo uses templates to speed up his processes; how Somatoast works with “found sounds”; how Murkury designs his sub bass; and how Entangled Mind, Mystic Grizzly, Cut Rugs and the rest of the roster make the creative decisions that give their music its own identity and a polished finish.
“You’re stepping into a learning environment where a whole community of artists support each other and share their unique perspectives, methods, and creative approaches.” – Pathwey
For intermediate and advanced producers, these nuances matter. It’s one thing to learn the basics of EQ or compression from a textbook; it’s another to have a seasoned artist walk you through the exact techniques they use on their own tracks, sharing knowledge that only emerges after years spent in the DAW. That dynamic, feedback and curriculum from working professionals , is the heartbeat of Synthesis, and the foundation on which the rest of the platform is built.
If you want to take things to the next level, the membership offers a comprehensive path to get there. Designed for producers who are ready to turn their passion into a profession, it provides the tools needed to level up across every critical area, including sound design, songwriting, mixing, mastering, and even branding/marketing. With over 150 in-depth workshops led by dozens of professional touring artists and studio engineers, the platform has become a comprehensive resource for nearly every facet of the modern music industry, all housed in one place.

In addition to a growing library of online resources, Synthesis just announced its latest evolution: the launch of their long-awaited label, kicking off with six remixes of Alejo’s “Enjoy” by members of the program. The imprint gives students an opportunity to release their finished work alongside the very mentors who help shape it, placing emerging producers and established artists on the same platform. With several live events already under their belt and more showcases on the horizon, Synthesis is carving out a path from studio-to-stage by offering students not just education, but visibility and real-world opportunities.
It’s the natural result of building an ecosystem rooted in talent, collaboration, and shared spirit rather than capitalism or gatekeeping. When a community is designed to lift its members, the possibilities become truly limitless. For producers ready to take that step and join a community of artists committed to pushing themselves and each other, Synthesis offers an open door. It’s a place to learn, refine, experiment, and ultimately, to become the artist you’ve been striving toward. If you want to explore the platform, dive deeper into the curriculum, or get to know the mentors shaping its direction, now is the perfect time, as enrollment is open for their 2026 programs and they are offering a 33% discount off your first payment for membership if you sign up before January 1st (whether its monthly or yearly!) with code “MISFIT” at checkout.
